Niue language week

This week was Niuean language week, in our Friday assembly Mrs Langitupu and Miss Taulagi got together a group of students to perform a Niuean dance. They had a large group of students and four of Pt England School Niuean students all spoke and introduced themselves in their Niuean language. I really enjoyed the dance the most.

Mr Jacobson also showed us some instruments, one was a Conch shell that he blew through to make a horn like sound, other instruments he showed us were a trumpet, and a long horn that he could blow through to make a sound also. I enjoyed todays assembly.

                                            Music Madness

This term we are learning about Music Madness, each team had to put together a skit to show how they were going to add music to their curriculum this term.
Team 5: Mrs Tele’a,Miss Tapuke,Mr Wiseman, Mrs Ilaoa, Miss Whaea Kelly.
Why? Because it was funny, and cool. They were acting funny and all the kids and the teachers laughed.
The soundtrack they used was from The Lion King Movie.  They showed how you can use the same clip and use different music for the background which then changes what the clip is trying to say.
So this term we will be learning all about how music makes us feel and the range of emotions that music can bring about in people.
I think I will look forward to this term and learning more about music.

Catching flounders

Today Pt England School had a special outing. The whole school gathered and walked down to the Tamaki Estuary to watch Mr Voight and some of our students, cast large flounder nets out to try and catch some flounder. When we got to the reserve we all sang some waiata and said a karakia the group of students were already in the water dragging the net through the sea to catch the flounder. The reason we were catching flounder was so we could bring them back to school and put them in our special tank, where Mr Voight and his team would take care of them. We were very lucky that it did not rain. Everyone had a nice morning out of the classroom.

Room 4 Manaiakalani Film Festival 2017

Guess what time of the year it is again?......it's the Manaiakalani Film Festival!

Room 4 has been working really hard on their film about, hmm thats right its a secret sshh.

I can’t give away too much but I can tell you, when you watch our film you might lose your appetite.  If you enjoy food you will like our film. Most of our class took part, and we all really enjoyed making our film.
Our film will make you laugh.
I think our film is really funny, I would like to thank Mrs Judd for all her hard work and creativity in helping room 4 put their film together.

Tongan language week

Last week was Tongan language week. Here at Pt England School we have a large student body of Tongan students. Pt England and Glen Innes have a very large Tongan population.
Every year in New Zealand, we celebrate Tongan language week, here at Pt England School we started the week by one of our Tongan students Bobby John introducing Tongan language week to our senior assembly in Tongan.  In our Friday assembly we had some of our Tongan students perform a traditional Tongan dance for the whole school to enjoy.
I liked Tongan language week.

Team 5 Speech

Team 5 speech

Last friday after play time, Team 5 had their speech final. Each class had three speakers. The audience was all five classes - Room 1 to 5.
We also had students from the pavilion years 3 & 4.

I think the speakers were very brave. Some were confident.  Let me tell you about my favourite speaker on the day.

Roimata was my favourite speaker. She spoke about a lady and a man on a hill back in Rarotonga, who were ghosts.
